National Registration Bureau rolls out mobile ID registration units
The Department of National Registration has deployed 100 mobile registration units to reach citizens in remote and underserved areas ahead of the 2027 mass registration drive.
The Department of National Registration Bureau, under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, has deployed 100 mobile ID registration units across arid and semi-arid counties to improve access ahead of the planned 2027 mass registration exercise.
The units, equipped with biometric capture equipment and satellite connectivity, will visit designated trading centres and administrative locations on a rotating schedule, prioritising areas more than 15km from the nearest registration office.
Citizens turning 18 are reminded that a national ID is required to access most government services, including SHA registration, voter registration, and mobile money accounts. First-time registration remains free of charge.
The rotating schedule for each county is published through the local chief's office and the Huduma Kenya SMS alert service.
