New Kenyan e-passport applications to be processed within 10 days

From: Department of Immigration ServicesPublished: 14 February 2026

The Department of Immigration Services has announced a new processing target of 10 working days for standard Kenyan e-passport applications, down from the previous 21-day target.

The Department of Immigration Services has announced that the standard processing time for Kenyan e-passport applications has been reduced to 10 working days, effective 1 February 2026.

The improvement follows the installation of additional passport production equipment at the Nyayo House passport offices and the opening of regional passport application centres in Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret.

Applicants should note that the 10-day target applies to applications submitted online via eCitizen with all required documents uploaded. Incomplete applications or those requiring further verification may take longer.

Emergency passports remain available for urgent travel within 3 working days at a fee of KES 4,550 plus KES 3,000 emergency surcharge. Proof of urgency (flight ticket or medical emergency) is required.

Passport application status can be checked online at ecitizen.go.ke or by calling the eCitizen helpline on 0800 724 001 (toll free).
