Get a Kenyan passport

How to apply for a new Kenyan e-passport, renew an expiring passport, or get an emergency travel document.

Allow at least 3 weeks before your travel date. Do not book flights before your passport is confirmed.
1

Check if you're eligible

You can apply for a Kenyan passport if you are a Kenyan citizen by birth, registration, or naturalisation. You'll need a valid National ID card (for adults) or certified birth certificate (for children under 18). Dual citizens must declare their other nationality.

2

Create or log in to your eCitizen account

Go to ecitizen.go.ke and log in with your National ID number and password. If you don't have an account, register — you'll need your National ID and a working mobile number for OTP verification.

Go to eCitizen ↗
3

Fill in and submit the application

Select 'Department of Immigration' then 'Passport Application'. Complete the online form — personal details, travel history, emergency contact. Upload a passport photo (ICAO-compliant: white background, face clearly visible). Pay the fee of KES 4,550 via M-PESA Paybill 222222.

4

Book your biometrics appointment

After submitting online, book an appointment at your nearest Immigration Office or Huduma Centre for fingerprint capture and photo verification. Bring your original National ID and printed application form.

5

Collect your passport

You will receive an SMS when your passport is ready — typically 10–21 working days after your biometrics appointment. Collect in person at the office where you attended, or request courier delivery to a Huduma Centre near you.
